When high school senior Amine found out his friend, Dustin, was diagnosed with cancer, he knew he wanted to support him. Amine rallied the community together to create the Dustin Strong 5K, a Jimmy FundRaiser that raised nearly $2,000 for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“Creating a fundraiser in honor of Dustin was a way to turn a very negative situation into something positive — something to bring the community together,” Amine said.

You can support the fight against cancer, too. Every year, hundreds of people of all ages host their own fundraisers — large and small — that turn their passion or hobby into a way to give back (think: bake sales, barbecues, tournaments, concerts, and more). Volunteers have raised more than $3 million annually to fuel the work of Dana-Farber clinicians and scientists, and support families affected by cancer.
