The Back Bay area of Boston has many tree-lined streets that are perfect for a block party this summer.

Want to get to know your neighbors and have some fun?

Mayor Wu and the Community Engagement Cabinet’s Office of Civic Organizing announced that for the second year applications are open for the summertime block party grants.

Community organizations and residents can apply for these mini-grants, up to $750, and use them to purchase food, games, party supplies, and other items. The city has a Block Party Planning Guide available for potential hosts to learn about the entire planning process, including applying for required permits, plenty of tips for organizing, and a list of possible supplies that may be needed.

An informational session will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. Following the submission of a an application for a Play Street Closing Permit at least 30 days prior to the event, residents can then apply for grant funding within the same form. Grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Wednesday, July 31.
