Eat like a local with Mass Farmers’ Markets

Try This: Eat like a local with Mass Farmers’ Markets

Mass Farmers Markets_BOS Experience #2
Plenty of fresh produce is waiting for you. | Photo by BOStoday team
Did you know? Massachusetts is home to 200+ farmers’ markets. Not only do farmers’ markets provide a space to purchase the freshest of the fresh, locally-grown seasonal produce (think: fruit, veggies + dairy products), but they also provide a community-centered space for Bostonians to connect with food + the folks who grow it.

City Editor Jess here. Recently, I spent a Saturday morning at my local market, which I learned about through Mass Farmers Markets. Created in 1978 to build fresh food access across Massachusetts, the org has a handy digital map to help you find your nearest market. 🍅

What we tried (with pricing):

I took a trip over to Cambridge to shop at the Central Square Farmers Market on Monday afternoon — which just so happened to coincide with Farmers’ Market Week. The market is free to explore, and super organized with plenty of vendors connecting food, agriculture + environmental policy to the communities they serve.

While visiting the market, my connections to the community only grew deeper with every conversation. While shopping, I met the market planners, local growers, and community members, so you get to know where your food comes from + who helped bring it to the neighborhood.*

Celebrate National Cinema Day in Boston, MA

There are over 20 participating theaters in Boston. | Photo via @onlyinfenway
This Saturday is National Cinema Day and to celebrate, we’re sharing where you can find $3 movies around the greater Boston area.

Who’s behind the scenes of this?
That would be The Cinema Foundation, aka the nonprofit portion of the National Association of Theater Owners. It works to support theaters and have teamed up with major chains (like AMC and Regal Cinemas) to offer a nationwide discount at more than 3,000 theaters including 20+ locations in Boston. Here’s just a few:

🎥 AMC Boston Common 19
🎥 Regal Fenway
🎥 AMC South Bay Center 12
🎥 The Majestic 7
🎥 Landmark Kendall Square Cinema

Visit the National Cinema Day website to find the theater closest to you.

Organizers of the event are considering making this a more annual feature. Would you head to a local theater for a cheap movie day in Boston?

Today’s edition was written by City Editor Jessica.

Editor’s pick: One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Yesterday was Allston Christmas and locals know to keep their eyes open as leases begin and students move in for furniture and other random household items left behind on the sidewalk. Tell me what you’ve found on the biggest moving day of the year.
