Boston turned up the heat this year with one Best New Restaurant nomination, two Outstanding Wine Program nominations, and seven Best Chef: Northeast nods.

Comfort Kitchen is known for global comfort food like this okra dish.

It’s like the Oscars for foodies — and we’re hungry to share all of the local culinary achievements. Yesterday the James Beard Foundation announced its list of semifinalists for the 2024 awards honoring restaurant and chefs.

The list is organized by best-of categories, individuals, and restaurants. This year the Bay State has a number of potential award-winning eateries and chefs on the list. Let’s take a look at the local nominees.

Best New Restaurant:

Comfort Kitchen, Dorchester
Coming up on the one-year anniversary of its opening, this Upham’s Corner eatery serves global comfort food that celebrates the ingredients and flavors of the African diaspora. The cozy cafe has counter service during the day and at night transforms into an intimate dinner experience with a full bar. Comfort Kitchen was also recognized on the New York Times’ Top 50 Restaurants List 2023.
