Local high schoolers are ready to hit the gridiron. The New England Patriots Foundation has helped launch a new girls flag football league, made up of teams from local high schools.

The inaugural league will feature eight Bay State teams: Ayer-Shirley, Chelsea, Fitchburg, Leominster, St. Mary’s Lynn, Needham, Peabody, and Woburn. The league begins on Thursday, April 27.

The Patriots Foundation donated $5,000 to each school to support the teams + Nike donated the uniforms, which all the teams received at Gillette Stadium last week.

After the regular season concludes, teams will return to Gillette Stadium for the chance at the championship trophy.
