Independent Bookstore Day is fast approaching (Sat., April 30) and as certified Boston bookworms, we couldn’t wait to start celebrating.

We asked three local booksellers to share a book recommendation. Here are some bibliophile-approved books to pick up at your favorite indie bookshop this weekend (or sooner).

📚 “Afterparties” by Anthony Veasna So — recommended by Allison, Events and Marketing Manager at Trident Booksellers & Cafe.

  • “The short stories in Afterparties read more like love letters than fiction, each one an intimate and attentive portrait of daily life in the Cambodian-American communities in which So was raised.”

📚 “Hail Mary: The Rise and Fall of the National Women’s Football League” by Britni de la Cretaz and Lyndsey D’Arcangelo — recommended by Christina Pascucci-Ciampa, Owner and Founder of All She Wrote Books.

  • “As an avid sports fan and one for reading all things queer history, I instantly fell in love with ‘Hail Mary.’ This book shares the story of the rise and fall of the league through the women-players who loved and played the game — despite society telling them they shouldn’t (or couldn’t).”

📚 “Thin Places: A Natural History of Healing and Home” by Kerri ní Dochartaigh — recommended by Lisa Gozashti, Owner and Manager of Brookline Booksmith.

  • “This lovely book is a remarkable portrait of survival, depicting the author’s harrowing childhood growing up in Northern Ireland against a backdrop of war, negation, and loss.”

Don’t turn the page just yet — here are some of the celebrations to look forward to this weekend.
