TIME released the second annual list of the Top 100 Most Influential Companies yesterday, featuring leaders in health care, entertainment, technology + other sectors. Several of the award-winning companies are based right here in the Boston area.

Starry, Boston

  • Boston residents may already be familiar with the name Starry from their Internet bills. The home-wireless startup offers affordable Internet (Starry Connect) in an effort to close the digital divide. Thanks to Starry, 55,000+ public and affordable housing units in our city and other metropolitan areas have access to the Internet without needing credit checks.

Moderna, Cambridge

  • Did you know that the major pharmaceutical company is headquartered in Cambridge? TIME gave a nod to Moderna’s choice not to enforce the patent on its COVID-19 vaccine in 92 countries currently receiving the shots, allowing for global production + wide-scale access.

Modulate, Cambridge

  • This local company created ToxMod, the world’s first proactive voice moderation solution to detect hate speech and verbal abuse. ToxMod is already in use for major gaming titles like Rec Room. Modulate’s co-founder said the company’s goal is to make video gaming safer + more inclusive.

Rendever, Somerville

  • Somerville-based Rendever offers a social virtual reality platform for residents of senior living communities. The company creates shared experiences to combat isolation and loneliness + improve fitness for seniors. Rendever’s product is currently used in 400+ nursing homes across the country as well as in Canada and Australia.
