It’s been a busy week for Mayor Wu + the City of Boston. City officials have expanded new programs and introduced new initiatives for the city over the past few days. Here are the details on three announcements.
🚲 Boston Delivers is an e-cargo bike delivery pilot program created to make deliveries to and from local businesses in Allston and the surrounding area. The program will launch in mid-September and run for at least a year. The goal is to support local businesses, reduce pollution, ease traffic congestion, and improve street safety. The city is contributing ~$345,000 towards the new program with the bulk of the money being spent on labor, outreach, and equipment.
🤿 Demand for free swim lessons has been high, so the city is expanding the Swim Safe campaign and offering year-round beginner-level swim lessons. Plus, Mayor Wu has allocated $34.3 million for renovating the city’s pools and commissioned the first citywide evaluation of aquatics infrastructure to help get city pools reopened quickly. Swim Safe grant applications are now open to local organizations and the deadline to complete this form is Friday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. to be considered for up to $150,000.
🗣️ The city is requesting feedback from residents to help shape the city’s representation on the MBTA Board that best reflects the needs of commuters and riders. Earlier this month, leaders passed the state budget + created a City of Boston seat on the Board of Directors of the MBTA, giving the city a seat at the table. Residents can submit ideas through this form by Monday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.

Art
A 170-year-old sculpture once assumed to be missing will return to its home in Boston, thanks to the FBI’s Art Crime Team (bet you didn’t know that existed, did you?). Now if only someone could locate Boston’s long-lost Rembrandt… (Smithsonian Magazine)
Concert
Batter up: The Zac Brown Band will shatter their own record for the most consecutive sold-out shows at Fenway Park this weekend. The Atlanta-based group will perform their 14th full-capacity concert at the historic ballpark on Saturday.
