News Notes
Transit
  • The good news: The Sumner Tunnel is open again. The bad news: Free and discounted fares have ended on the Blue Line + commuter rail. Reload your CharlieCard or ticket ASAP to avoid long kiosk lines.
Civic
  • Chew on this. A new proposal from Boston City Council aims to simplify food pushcart permits + establish “pushcart zones” across the city. These designated spaces would carve out room for vendors to ensure that pushcarts do not take customers from brick-and-mortar restaurants and food trucks. (WBZ)
Cause
  • Boston City Hall, bridges, and government buildings across the state were illuminated in purple last night to recognize the beginning of National Recovery Month. Together with volunteers, the city has also planted 20,000 purple flags at Boston Common to honor the many lives lost to overdoses.
Community
  • Students moving to Boston this weekend can access the city’s updated index of information and resources regarding trash collection, tenant rights, resident parking, and updating addresses + voter registration.
Coming Soon
  • Less than two weeks until we’re stuffing our bocas at Boqueria. The new Spanish tapas bar will open Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 25 Thomson Pl. in the Seaport. Spanish-style brunch and lunch service will begin shortly thereafter. Peep the menu and nab a reservation.
Dine
  • After late-night talkin’, enjoy some midday munchin’. Sunset Cantina hosts Harry Styles-themed brunches + dinners this Saturday, Sept. 2 + Sunday, Sept. 3. Your ticket includes food, one drink, access to games, and a stylish soundtrack.

Time to gather ‘round the (metaphorical) campfire. Club Passim celebrates 25 years of its annual Campfire Festival this Labor Day weekend, providing all the sounds of a summer folk fest and none of the sunburns + swarming mosquitoes.

ICYMI — the festivities began last night with an evening of storytelling, but the party continues through Monday, Sept. 4 with over 60 live performances at Club Passim’s historic listening room.

Artists scheduled to take the stage at the Harvard Square venue include Rose Polenzani, Liv Greene, Hank Wonder, junior rail transit, Genesis Fermin, and Nicolas Emden. Look for local favorites like Jessye DeSilva, Naomi Westwater, and Ava Sophia on the daily lineups.

Guests are encouraged to witness the performances in the intimacy of Passim’s listening room, but can opt to view a live stream from home. One-day tickets are available for $10. Pro tip: Snag a weekend pass for just $25.

You’re welcome.
