Chances are, you know Cheech and Chong. Maybe you’ve seen their movies, maybe you’ve heard their standup from the 70s and 80s, or maybe you just know they’re pretty big fans of cannabis.
What you might not know is that the duo is coming to town — tonight — to celebrate their new High & Dry THC Seltzer, now available in liquor stores across the greater Boston area.
The origin story
In 2020, 42 years after “Up in Smoke” became the highest-grossing comedy of 1978 (and set the stage for a whole new generation of stoner comedies), Cheech and Chong started their own cannabis business — because some things just make sense.
Sippers can choose from Citrus Sunrise, Grapefruit Twist, Raspberry Highball, and Magic Mule.

MBTA working to eliminate slow zones
Portions of the Red, Orange, Green, and Blue Lines will be shut down for several days in 2024. | Photo via @walkingtransfer
“Slow down, you’re doin’ fine” may be some of Billy Joel’s best advice, but when it comes to the T... it’s not exactly what we’re all thinking.
In an effort to eliminate the notorious “slow zones” thanks to speed restrictions, the MBTA announced plans to shut down portions of the Red, Orange, Green, and Blue Lines starting later this month.
Why are there speed restrictions?
Speed restrictions — which impact 31.1 miles of subway line in total — were put in place due to problems with the track that could impact passenger safety.
There are two types of speed restriction: Line-wide, which force slowdowns across an entire line, and Block speed, which only apply to specific lengths of track.
So, they’re shutting down (more) lines?
For a few days at a time, portions of your favorite line may be shut down. The shutdowns will provide time for the MBTA to fix parts of the track that cause slow zones, whether that be:
Replacing old rail ties and tie plates
Replacing the entire track
Improving power delivery systems
The first shutdown will impact the Green Line and take place between North and Kenmore stations, Nov. 27-Dec. 5 + between Riverside and Kenmore stations, Dec. 11-Dec. 20. This will be followed by work on the Red, Orange, and Blue Lines in 2024.

Hey, Boston. I suppose I should introduce myself (the other day I got too excited about Sylvia Plath and hopped right on my soapbox without saying “hi”). I’m a National Content Editor on the 6AM City team, just stepping in for a few days while Vicki is off on island time. Don’t worry, she’ll be back soon — but for now, you’re stuck with me.
