This May, the Boston Pops return to Symphony Hall with a lineup of exciting concerts featuring show-stopping performers.

Civic
  • The City of Boston is giving away compost to residents on Saturday, April 27. Head to Refectory Hill in Dorchester’s Franklin Park from 2 to 5 p.m. with your own container and stock up on compost courtesy of Save that Stuff and Garbage to Garden.
Eat
  • Committee will celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the Seaport on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 with “Grexico.” The Greek-influenced, Mexican menu will feature pulpo asado (grilled octopus) and adobo lamb ribs, plus four taco options: pork, lamb barbacoa, swordfish, and squash blossom. Make your reservations.

  • Worcester’s own Polar Seltzer has released its summer 2024 flavors. Raspberry Limoncello and Seaside Watermelon Punch return to store shelves alongside new flavors Papaya Breeze, Peach Iced Tea, and Strawberry Creme. (Boston.com)

  • The Independent Film Festival Boston returns Wednesday, May 1 to Wednesday, May 8, showcasing some of the brightest in indie cinema. Tickets go on sale tomorrow to see 96 films screened at local theaters, including the Brattle Theatre, the Coolidge Corner Theatre, and the Somerville Theatre.

  • Legal Sea Foods has donated $100,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital’s Stem Cell Research Program. Team members toured the hospital’s facilities and learned about the groundbreaking research.

Another Marathon Monday has raced by. Let’s take a quick look at the numbers from the 128th running of the Boston Marathon.
  • 29,451 — Participants that entered in Monday’s race, including 16,803 men, 12,595 women, and 53 non-binary entrants
  • 118 — Countries represented in the race field (not to mention all 50 states)
  • 4,464 — Bay Staters that took on the 26.2 miles
  • 9,900 — Volunteers helped make the event happen
  • 168 — Nonprofits that were part of the official charity program
  • $200+ million — The estimated impact on the Greater Boston economy
Who won?
Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia won the men’s title on Monday, completing the course in 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 17 seconds, which is the 10th-fastest time in marathon history. Hellen Obiri won her second straight women’s title, at 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 37 seconds, becoming the sixth woman to win back-to-back titles.

In the wheelchair division, Switzerland’s Marcel Hug broke the course record with his time of 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 33 seconds, which beat the record he set last year. Eden Rainbow Cooper was the first British woman to win the women’s title in either the open or wheelchair divisions, completing the course in 1 hour, 35 minutes, and 11 seconds.

Congratulations to all the marathoners who completed the Boston Marathon. You did it!
