Boston is a bustling city, but did you know it’s also the noisiest city in the US? Based on research conducted by earth.fm, 11.8% of Bostonians are exposed to noise levels exceeding 65 decibels on an average day.

That doesn’t mean you can’t find some peace and quiet. The study also found places where locals can escape noise pollution by identifying the top quiet places in big cities. To do this, researchers assessed 3,000+ parks and nature spaces across 245 cities with populations over 250,000 and assigned them “Quiet Scores.” The methodology considered:
  • Reviews of the attractions that include words like quiet, peaceful, or tranquil
  • The average visitor rating at each location
  • The attraction’s popularity, and how that impacts its peacefulness

🦄 The new and improved unicorn

A graphic breaking down the new elements of the new logo.
Fun fact: The unicorn is nicknamed Spike. | Photo courtesy of the Boston Marathon
The Boston Athletic Association and the new title sponsor Bank of America have recommitted to the Official Charity Program with an anticipated $500 million. The new goal is to welcome 10,000 new runners into the sport over the next 10 years.

In the spirit of moving forward together, the local athletic organization has unveiled a new logo for the Boston Marathon. The iconic symbol has evolved into a forward-facing, athletic unicorn.

Elements of the new logo include:
  • Spike’s jawline is enhanced for the athletic and gritty nature of Boston.
  • The horn pointing northeast represents the direction of the Marathon route.
  • The new base of the unicorn showcases two sides coming together.
  • The break in the neck is symbolic of breaking the champion’s tape at the finish line.
  • There are 13 points on the mane, one for each decade of BAA heritage.
Head to the finish line to see the new logo in-person.

Was I the only one who didn’t know that the Boston Marathon unicorn has a name? For those who don’t know — the logo is named Spike, which seems fitting for a tough marathon unicorn.
