We know the question on your mind, Bostonians — when is it going to get cool?
Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for September, October, and November. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what fall will bring.
Reminder: The first day of fall is on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Temperature
Fall may feel pretty toasty — Boston is predicted to have temperatures likely 60-70% above normal this season.
Precipitation
It might be time to break out the rain jackets — autumn should bring 40-50% more rainfall than usual in Beantown.
Dancin’ in September
Enjoy the first feelings of fall over these next couple of weeks. The September high averages 72.7° and the low dips to 57.4°. It’ll be relatively dry, as this month typically has the least amount of rainfall.
Oh hay, October
Fall foliage will start to peak, and cooler weather will close in. The average daylight is just over 11 hours, with about 6 hours of sunshine each day. Plus, it’s probably time to put the swimsuits away — the ocean temperature will drop below 60°.
Nice November
It’s time to break out the mittens and hats. Cold and snow begin to creep in throughout November, with the average daily high dropping to 49.5°. On average, rain falls for 10.2 days of the month + snow falls for 1.4 days.
