Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center , we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for March, April, and May. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what spring will bring.

Think warmer thoughts. This spring, Boston has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.

Expect slightly more precipitation. Boston has a 33-40% chance of seeing higher than average snow and rainfall amounts this spring.
March
Longer days are on the horizon with daylight saving time springing forward on March 12. Typically in Boston, March’s temperatures fluctuate between an average low of 42° and an average high of 51°. You can also expect to see 6:30 p.m. sunsets early in the month.
April
Never forget about the April 1 snow storm that surprised the city in 1997. While we can expect and average of 52°, temperatures can range from highs around 58° to lows around 47°F — we know mother nature can fool us at any time with a spontaneous snow storm. Look for the unofficial sign of spring in the city with the return of the Boston Public Garden Swan Boats on Saturday, April 13.
May
Summer is in full swing with 8 p.m. sunsets on the Esplanade and temperatures ranging between lows of 50° and highs of 68°.
