The momentum behind women’s sports in Boston just keeps growing. Following news of forthcoming women’s soccer and hockey teams, the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour has announced that the FM Global Championship is coming to Norton next year.
Over 140 players will tee off at TPC Boston from Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024 to Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024 for the professional women’s golf competition. Although the Norton course has welcomed 17 PGA Tour events, this will be its first time hosting a professional women’s competition.
The winner will take home $3.5 million, the largest prize on the tour, excluding the majors and tour championship. In comparison, the champ at last year’s US Open in Brookline won just over $3 million . Golf remains a lucrative sport in Massachusetts, driving $2+ billion in direct economic activity last year.
The 2024 FM Global Championship marks the first women’s professional golf tournament in Greater Boston in decades. The Tour previously stopped in Canton in 1997 + the US Women’s Open was held in South Hadley in 2004.
