We all know the Boston area is home to a myriad of murals — but did you know Cambridge has its own artsy avenue full of (legal) graffiti?
The 80-ft walkway known as “Graffiti Alley” is one of two legal spray painting walls in Massachusetts (the other is in Beverly ).
Since 2007, it’s been a space for local artists to create ephemeral pieces that last until the next person adds their creative stamp, no sign ups or registration necessary. Locals are only asked to refrain from adding to the wall while the adjoining business Brick & Mortar is open and serving up cocktails.
In 2021, the building was scraped down to bare brick and a wall of plywood was added to protect the building + allow artists to continue their work.
