When it comes to sports, Boston has no shortage of teams to support. Our city is home to some of the most loyal fans in the country, and with the Bruins leading the NHL standings and the Red Sox’ Opening Day just a few weeks away, it’s never a bad time to be a Boston sports fan.
Here’s everything you need to know about the local sports scene.
🏒 Boston Bruins (NHL) | Est. 1924
The Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL and have had multiple champions don the black and gold uniform, including Bobby Orr and Willie O’Ree.
Team colors: Black and gold
While the bear mascot might make you think of brown, rumor has it the franchise owner didn’t like the color.

⚾ Boston Red Sox (MLB) | Est. 1901
The Boston Red Sox are one of the most iconic teams in baseball history, and attending a game at Fenway is so good, so good, so good. Founded in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter franchises, the Boston team has a storied history at America’s oldest ballpark.
Team colors: Red, white, and blue
The Sox sport the “City Connect” alternative uniforms featuring yellow and light blue to honor Patriots Day.
From 1919 to 2004, the team saw one of the longest championship droughts in baseball history, infamously known as the “Curse of the Bambino” due to owner Harry Frazee’s decision to trade Babe Ruth to the rival New York Yankees in 1920.
The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry is one of the most noteable in all of sports, dating back more than a century and over 2,000 games.
