The Loop is feeling home sweet home at Mattapan Station. Mayor Wu and city officials are celebrating the grand opening of the new six-story transit-oriented development at 500 River St.
What’s at this new Mattapan development?
The developers were able to repurpose a 2.57-acre MBTA parking lot in Mattapan Square. For all the commuters searching for parking, there are 50 permanent spaces on site, in addition to street parking along River Street.
The development is located next to an MBTA bus stop, across from the Mattapan Trolley stop, and a block from the Mattapan Commuter Rail Station. The bus stop is along Routes 28 + 29, which are included in the City’s Free Fare program.
The Mattapan development is also close to the Neponset River Greenway, a 2.4-mile long trail + green space running from Dorchester to Milton. Talk about location, location, location.
The project has created 135 units of affordable mixed-use housing, which will be available to a range of households with different income levels. The apartments will be leased through a lottery system from by the City of Boston.
The Loop at Mattapan Station has six studio apartments, 38 one-bedroom apartments, 81 two-bedroom apartments, and 10 three-bedroom apartments. There’s also some sweet amenities for residents like a fitness gym, community rooms, basketball court, roof deck, bike room, and an E-bike station.
This community grocery store has four locations across the city.
Additionally, there is 10,000-sqft of first-floor retail space + the first tenant is a nonprofit grocery store. The Daily Table is a local community grocery market with a mission to provide nutritious and affordable food. The team partners with a wide network of providers to offer low-cost groceries, a community gathering space, and a teaching kitchen.

Get on the MBTA,
start a conversation with the Bostonians to the right. While you wait for the next train, take initiative. Someone May need you to make their evening.
If we all support these roles in our community, the transit will be a fusion of spirits filled with gusto,
live like the garden by Downtown Crossing.
Do you know your community?
Looking down at Instagram, returning from work at sunset, do you see it?
A new play based on the movie “Jaws” called “The Shark is Broken” will make a splash on Broadway beginning on July 25. The comedy will be an interpretation of the making of the movie, which was filmed in Massachusetts. I guess I’m going to need to plan a trip to New York this summer.
