Craving finger sandwiches and a hot cuppa tea in an elegant environment? Head to one of the Boston area’s many tea rooms for a spot of afternoon tea — in honor of Drink Up Month, here are six local spots we recommend visiting.

Courtyard Tea Room at the Boston Public Library
The Central Library’s tea room offers a 90-minute, $68 afternoon tea service overlooking the McKim Courtyard. Pro tip: Head to the Map Room Tea Lounge afterwards for a tea-inspired cocktail.

Beacon Hill Books & Cafe
Make a reservation and head to the downstairs cafe at the Beacon Hill bookstore for Sunday afternoon tea between 12 to 5 p.m. The prix fixe menu is $55 per adult and $35 for children.

Silver Dove Afternoon Tea
Enjoy afternoon tea downtown at $48 per person for the fixed price food menu (featuring savory canapés + a matcha layer cake) and a pot of tea, or opt for the $56 offering with a glass of wine or cocktail.

Jolie Tea Company
Drive or take the commuter rail to Salem for high tea service ($32 per person) with lemon scones and madeleines. You can also reserve the private Salon Room for parties of four to six people.

Abigail’s Tea Room
A visit to the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum isn’t complete without a spot of tea. Grab a bottomless cup of tea for $4 or try the tea platter with two scones + two toppings for up to four guests.

Fancy That
This vibrant Walpole tea room, just under 30 miles from Boston, serves afternoon tea for $37 per person. Expect two scones with clotted cream, four sandwiches, three mini desserts, and your choice of tea.

Massachusetts’ solar energy potential

Check out this map to discover the suitability for solar energy around the state. | Map via Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources
A recent analysis from the State Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs showed that Massachusetts has plenty of room to introduce solar energy.

Currently, there are three gigawatts of solar operating in our state, mainly comprised of rooftop panels installed by businesses + local homeowners.

According to the report, the Bay State can support ~52 gigawatts of solar electricity. That’s roughly double the amount that the state’s Climate Action Plan set out to achieve by 2050.

The study also includes interactive maps to help developers and planners view individual parcels of land + determine how fit they are for various types of solar development.

If you’re curious, type in your address on the main map to learn how suitable your home is for solar. Then, read up on Massachusetts’ incentive programs and resources for installing solar energy.
