The $5 billion, 21-building Dorchester Bay City project received approval from the Boston Civic Design Commission this week, moving this project one step closer to reality. If it clears the final steps, this “mini-city” would be one of Boston’s largest commercial developments.

Since the project began in 2019, it has grown to include more property, now totaling ~36 acres with 6.1 million sqft of anticipated office, research and development + academic spaces. Additionally, the development will include 1,957 residential units (20% of those would designated for affordable housing), plus 15 acres of public open space.

Members of the city’s architectural review board unanimously approved the project. Next steps for this project include a public hearing and vote from the BPDA in August.

I think Next Door in East Boston is back on its sneaky game on Instagram. If you don’t know, I’ll let you in on the secret — it’s a speakeasy in East Boston with specialty cocktails and raw bar bites. Now, it looks like there might be a new speakeasy in the works in disguise as a locksmith store. I’ll be patiently awaiting more project updates to share with you.
