One major plus of living in New England is that the winter wonderlands don’t melt away after Christmas. Whether you happily embrace the colder temps, or you’re looking for a fun way to defrost your February, check out these free winter festivals taking place around Boston this month.

Revere Beach Winter Wonderland | Saturday, Feb. 3 | Waterfront Square | 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
Choose between fire and ice at the inaugural Revere festival, where world-class artists will craft ice sculptures as residents gather around fire pits with hot chocolate and other treats. In between hearing live music and browsing a local marketplace, grab a bite at one of the on-site food trucks, or save your appetite for the chili cook-off.

Quincy Presidents’ Day Winterfest | Monday, Feb. 19 | Various locations | 1-7 p.m.
Here’s your chance to take a selfie with George Washington. A green screen selfie booth, fire-juggling performances, and ice sculpture demonstrations await at Quincy’s Winterfest, which spans City Hall, the Church of the Presidents, and heated tents at Hancock-Adams Common. Elevate the experience at one of the ticketed events (think: puppet shows and live reptile + birds of prey demonstrations).

Boston Kids Winter Fest |Thursday, Feb. 21 | Boston Common Parade Ground, the corner of Beacon and Charles Streets | 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Out of winter break activity ideas? This family-oriented afternoon will have crafts, live music, and giveaways to keep the kids busy for hours. Keep an eye out for an inflatable fun house, alpine slide, and trackless train rides, plus a “snow throw.”

🌟 Meet Dorchester’s rising star

Welcome to the age of Ayo Edebiri

A picture of actress Ayo Edebiri, wearing a red vest and holding a mellet, looks through a hole in a kitchen wall.

She’s a Golden Globe + Emmy winner, a “Time100 Next” honoree, a TV star — and a Bostonian.

In Hollywood, writer and actress Ayo Edebiri tells the story of dynamic characters like Sydney Adamu in “The Bear.” Yet her own story starts in Dorchester.

Check out these fast facts about Edebiri’s formative years.
  • Edebiri attended both St. Margaret School and Boston Latin School, where she joined the Yellow Submarine Improv Troupe.
  • She graduated from New York University with a degree in dramatic writing — a handy skill when writing for “Big Mouth” and “What We Do In The Shadows.” (Bonus: Look for her voicing Missy in “Big Mouth” starting at the end of Season 4.)
  • “Dickinson” later tapped Edebiri for her writing and acting chops. Her roles with the Apple TV+ program grabbed the attention of screenwriter + director Christopher Storer — who just so happened to be casting for his show “The Bear.”
Tune in to watch Edebiri debut as a “Saturday Night Live” host this Saturday, Feb. 3.

From the editor
Dropping some Boston music news is perhaps the most on-brand way for me to sign off here at BOStoday. A Sunapee barn that once housed early Aerosmith rehearsals + shows recently dodged a five-alarm fire. Flames ravaged a nearby apartment building, but thankfully never spread to “The Barn.” There’s an opportunity for a “Livin’ On The Edge” joke here somewhere...

And with that, I gladly leave you in City Editor Jess’ hands. It’s been a pleasure bringing you the best of Boston every (other) day. Don’t be a stranger — you can follow my coverage on Instagram and X, and don’t hesitate to say hey at a show when you inevitably spot my beret.
