Last-minute Mother’s Day eats in Boston

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 12, and if you are looking for a reservation to make your maternal figure feel oh-so-special, we’ve rounded up a few local eateries offering a Mother’s Day menu.

Prezza, 24 Fleet St.
Sweeten the day with the menu at this Italian joint. Enjoy french toast with strawberries and blueberries or with Nutella and caramelized bananas. Go for the English muffin with ham, gruyere, and an olive oil fried egg if you are feeling something savory.

Bambara Kitchen & Bar, 25 Edwin H. Land Blvd., Cambridge
Brunch gets an early start at 7:30 a.m., where plenty of classic, savory options are abound, including eggs Benedict, omelets, and avocado French toast. Try the “We Are Family” cocktail, made with vodka, elderflower liqueur, hibiscus ginger syrup, and prosecco.

LUCIE drink + dine, 120 Huntington Ave.
Start off with a libation from the mimosa and Bloody Mary bars, then move on to a ham and broccoli quiche with tomato jam or brioche French toast.

Porto, Prudential Center, Ring Road
At this Back Bay spot, it will be hard to decide what to eat when the brunch offerings from 12 to 4 p.m. include shakshuka bolognese, a crab eggs Benedict, and baklava focaccia, alongside the calamari with a spicy tomato aioli.

Bonus: Calling all dog moms — Park-9 is hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Snap a Polaroid photo then participate in a peanut butter licking painting. First come, first served while supplies last.

Announced
  • The Tim McGraw concert scheduled for Friday, May 10 at TD Garden has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 8 due to the Bruins and Panthers NHL Playoffs game. The venue says that tickets for the original date will be honored. (CBS Boston)
Concerts
  • Lana del Rey is heading to Boston. The “Summertime Sadness” singer will be at Fenway Park for “One Special Night, One Special Show” on Thursday, June 20. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m.
Arts
  • An exhibit involving two of Boston Dynamics’ robotic dogs heads to the MFA on Friday, May 10. Fashioned by artist Agnieszka Pilat, at “Heterobota” visitors can watch Spot robots painting and working within an artist’s space. The exhibit will be active from 8 p.m. until midnight. (Boston Globe)
Community
  • To bring in more people to walk its green 175-acre space, Mount Auburn Cemetery has opened five new pedestrian-only gates on the Cambridge side for access. Along with longtime entrances on Mount Auburn and Grove streets, there are plans to open two more Watertown-side entrances next year. (WBUR)
Drink
  • The Layover, a new tropical bar on the rooftop above the Cunard Tavern in East Boston will open on Thursday, May 8. The bar’s menu includes hoisin ribs and duck spring rolls alongside specialty cocktails like the False Idols (Bacardi rum, lime juice, and amaretto).
Health
  • Steward Health Care has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. There is no expectation for change in the daily operations to its eight hospitals in the state and all facilities will remain open, including Carney Hospital in Dorchester and St. Elizabeth’s in Brighton. (7 News)

Block party grant applications available

Want to get to know your neighbors and have some fun?

Mayor Wu and the Community Engagement Cabinet’s Office of Civic Organizing announced that for the second year applications are open for the summertime block party grants.

Community organizations and residents can apply for these mini-grants, up to $750, and use them to purchase food, games, party supplies, and other items. The city has a Block Party Planning Guide available for potential hosts to learn about the entire planning process, including applying for required permits, plenty of tips for organizing, and a list of possible supplies that may be needed.

An informational session will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. Following the submission of a an application for a Play Street Closing Permit at least 30 days prior to the event, residents can then apply for grant funding within the same form. Grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Wednesday, July 31.
