Did you miss the chance to see holiday lights illuminating Boston? Luckily, there’s a new opportunity to see Boston all aglow this winter — this time, in emerald green.
Lights in the Necklace, an illumination program throughout Boston’s parks, is returning next week for the second year. To honor the power that urban parks have to connect neighbors and bridge communities, this program lights the way from winter to spring.
The lighting exhibition is hosted by The Emerald Necklace Conservancy, a non-profit organization founded in 1998 to maintain + restore Boston-area parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
The Emerald Necklace accounts for 1,100 acres of parkland, nine parks, and 30+ bridges throughout the city, from Back Bay to Brookline and Dorchester.
When + where can I see the lights?
The lights will be available for viewing daily between dusk and 9 p.m from Tues., Feb 1-Sun., Mar. 20.
View the map on the Emerald Necklace’s website to plan your visit + stay up to date on any location changes.
For now, here’s where you’ll be able to admire the emerald green:
📍 Commonwealth Avenue Mall, Charlesgate Park Trees
📍 Back Bay Fens, Liff Park Bridges
📍 Riverway Park, Chapel Street and Bridle Path Footbridges + Longwood Avenue Bridge
📍 Olmsted Park, Leverett Pond and Wards Pond Footbridges
📍 Franklin Park, Elliot Arch
Whether you’re driving or taking the T, refer to these directions before you go.
How can I get involved?
The organization is asking fans of the parks and the lights to consider making a gift — donations will help ensure that Boston’s green spaces remain safe and accessible to everyone.
If you snap a picture of Boston in its emerald best, be sure to share it on social media with #NecklaceLights and #BOStoday so we can see Boston shine in green too.
