When the Sox are away, the pickleballers play

Pickleball festival planned for Fenway Park

We already knew pickleball was taking over our city, and now we’ve got more proof that the sport is a pretty big dill in Boston.

Fenway Park is set to host an inaugural pickleball festival this summer as part of the Ballpark Festival Series hosted by Pickleball4America.

While there’s no official date yet — the announcement is expected later this month — we do know that a dozen pickleball courts will be placed along the outfield for a few days. Courts will be available to rent for open play, and there will be professional and amateur tournaments to watch.

The event’s timing will line up with a break in the Red Sox’ home schedule, so don’t worry about pickleballers impacting your “Sweet Caroline” singing.

While Fenway Sports Management helps iron out the logistics, brush up on your skills (maybe with a fresh set of paddles) at PKL or with Volo’s spring pickleball leagues.

From the editor
The regular NBA season has come to a close, and Bostonian Pete Rogers designed a total of 57 jerseys — one for each Celtics win.

Luckily, the local basketball fan has promised to continue creating new designs for the playoffs, modeling the opposing team jerseys after the Celtics. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
