This new educational program will put the pedal to the metal. The City of Boston is offering free bike instruction at 15 locations across the city for up to 300 residents ages four to 13.
Mayor Wu, Boston Parks and Recreation, Boston Centers for Youth & Families, and the Office of Early Childhood have teamed up to make investments in child bikes and instruction through the Connect, Learn, Explore: Boston’s Commitment to Youth initiative. The program is solidifying Boston as the best city to raise a family + ensuring children learn how to ride a bike and swim safely.
Riding a bike does more than provide a basic method of travel, it also helps get kids get outside and it’s fun. The goal is to increase access to bike education programs, so kids in the city will learn to ride a bike by third grade.
Safety is a priority, so it’s wheely exciting that Boston Children’s Hospital and Project KidSafe have committed to provide helmets for all the riders who are participating.
Bonus: Check out this list of additional sites offering bike instruction.

This is music to our ears — Mayor Wu and the City’s Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment Office are pumping up the summer jams with the inaugural release of “Dear Summer Vol. 1.”
The City’s first ever mixtape features 68 songs + mixes from 17 artists and six DJs from the Greater Boston area to celebrate the vibrancy of Boston’s communities. The playlist includes various genres, including hip-hop, R&B, rock, blues, and dance music. Each of these styles have impacted Boston’s cultural legacy over the years.
This new annual collaboration aims to build awareness of local talent, connect residents to their neighborhoods, and celebrate summer.
The mixtape is available to stream on Spotify, Soundcloud, and Mixcloud + a 17-song playlist can be found here.
Something is growing across the city thanks to a collaboration with The Roxbury Sunflower Project and community partners who have teamed up to plant sunflowers as part of an expanding public artwork program.
Roxbury Sunflower Project began from a Now + There Incubator Artists Accelerator Fellowship as a vision to use sunflowers to spread beauty and hope. Keep your eyes open for fresh sunflower blooms in Grove Hall, Martin’s Park in the Seaport, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
