Last month, you rushed to the polls, and the results didn’t disappoint. The winners are in for our Mount Rushmore of local literature, which — hypothetically — spotlights Louisa May Alcott, Phillis Wheatley, Robert Frost, and Edgar Allan Poe.

Alcott, author of “Little Women,” apparently left a major impression on Bostonians, with 76% of readers selecting her for their top four. Phillis Wheatley nabbed the next most votes (54%), followed by the nature-minded poet Robert Frost (51%), and master of the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe (46%).

Wheatley’s win comes at a particularly fitting time, as the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum recently debuted a pop-exhibit dedicated to her book “Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral.”

From the editor
How long does it take to fully appreciate a vinyl copy of “Anthology” by Junior Walker and The All Stars? For one Bostonian who rented the record last century, the answer is apparently 45 years. A mystery visitor at the Boston Public Library’s Jamaica Plain branch recently returned a long-lost copy of the album.

Original due date: Oct. 27, 1978. Better wicked late than never.
